Rehydrate the desi way with Aam Panna!
A classic Indian summer drink, Aam Panna is renowned for its thirst-quenching and hydrating properties. This flavoursome drink is super refreshing and is ideal for hot sunny afternoons.
Aam Panna reminds me of my summer break as we would live off this drink and beat the heat. It’s a quick and delicious recipe. All you need is some raw green mangoes, spices, water and sugar. Viola! You have a perfect drink to beat this scorching heat.

Ingredients for the Aam Panna(1 cup=250 ml, 1 tbsp=15 ml) |

2 med. Sized | Raw green mangoes |
2 cups | Water for cooking |
2 cups | Chilled water |
4 tbsp | Powdered sugar |
1 tsp | Roasted cumin powder |
½ tsp | Cardamom powder |
Black salt to taste | |
Salt to taste | |
Mint leaves for garnish | |
Instructions for the Aam Panna |

1 | Rinse the raw mangoes in water. Place the mangoes with skin along with 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker. |
2 | Pressure cook for 2 whistles on a medium flame (12 – 14 minutes) |
3 | When pressure settles down, remove the lid. Remove the peels. (it should come off easily). |
4 | Pour the contents in a strainer. Mash the pulp along with the liquid. |
5 | Add chilled water and sugar. (You can adjust the sweetness quantity as per your taste). Add the cardamom powder, salt, black salt, jeera powder and mix well. Chill in refrigerator of a few hours. |
6 | Serve chilled, garnish with mint leaves. |
Notes:
- The sugar quantity depends on the sourness of raw mangoes. Taste and add accordingly.
- You can also blend the mixture with a handful of mint leaves and serve.
